Ouro Prêto (Minas Gerais - Brésil)

J'ai vécu dans cette ville, dans les années 60... Et je crois qu'elle n'a pas beaucoup changé...

Construite au 18ème siècle à proximité de mines d'or (d'où son nom), Ouro Prêto a été Capitale de l'Etat de Minas Gerais de 1823 à 1897. Puis elle a été oubliée : elle est donc restée à peu près comme elle était il y a 100 ans...

Built in the 18th century close to gold mines (hence its name), Outo Prêto was the capital city of the State of Minas Gerais from 1823 to 1897. Then it was forgotten : thus, it remained in conditions very close to that of 100 years ago...

   
   

Santa Ifigênia est l'une des 12 églises (et 10 chapelles !) que compte la commune. Celle-ci a été construite par le Roi Africain Chico Rei, qui a racheté par son travail la liberté de sa famille et de sa tribu.

Santa Ifigênia is one of the 12 churches (and 10 chapels !) in the city. This one was built by the African King Chico Rei, who bought back the freedom of his family, through his work
     
 

Les plans de l'église San Francisco de Assis ont été réalisés par le fameux sculpteur Antônio Francisco Lisboa (o Aleijadinho), qui a également sculpté les ornements de la façade.

The drawings for the Church San Francisco de Assis were made by Antônio Francisco Lisboa (o Aleijadinho), who also sculpted the ornaments on the front.
     

A gauche, l'ancien Palais du Gouverneur de l'Etat, qui est devenu ensuite l'Ecole des Mines, la première Ecole d'Ingénieurs du Brésil (fondée par un Français), et qui est maintenant un Musée.

On the left, the old Governor's Palace, which became the School of Mining and Metallurgy, the first Engineering School in Brazil (founded by a Frenchman), and which is now a museum.
