July 1st, 2010 : From Susques to San Pedro de Atacama.
Beyond Susques, the road goes through an unreal scenery of salars and red mountains
The argentinian border post is located a few km before the Paso de Jama pass (4280 m ? maps don't always agree...).
Right next to the post, a service station and a superb brand new motel (4 rooms only). We will sleep there on our way back from Chile.

At an altitude of above 4000 meters, this road (hard covered, in excellent condition) is a delight. A few 4WD tracks, a few vicunas, snowy mountains... that's all... |
In the very long descend to San Pedro (2000 meters downhill !), a contemptuous llama turns his back on us... First sign of men... |
